FF Plus withdraws from debate offering platform for racism and violating Legislature rules

On Friday, the FF Plus refused to participate in a debate in Mpumalanga's provincial Legislature which was in contravention of Rules 53 and 38 of the Legislature and that elicited various racist and unfounded allegations against the white farming community in the province.

The ANC's Chief Whip, Fidel Mlombo, used two pending court cases relating to the Pampoenkraal incidents in Mkhondo (Piet Retief) as a platform for his participation in the debate and he asserted as fact that the two men were "shot and killed by heartless, white farmers" and that the Mpumalanga farming community "cruelly tortures" its employees.

Rule 53 clearly stipulates that no pending cases may be discussed in the Legislature. Seeing as no factual findings have been made and no ruling has been passed in the Mkhondo cases, Mlombo mislead the house with his assertion.

Despite the fact that the FF Plus requested a point of order and referred the Speaker, Makhosazane Masilela, to the rules in question, she allowed both the ANC and the EFF to use the Mkhondo court cases as basis for their participation in the debate.

It is absolutely irresponsible and unacceptable for any political party to make such statements inciting division among South Africans; this seems to be a tactic to further the agenda of expropriation without compensation.

Making such rash statements to score cheap political points in the runup to the local government elections may have far-reaching consequences seeing as the masses do not have any regard or patience for legal processes that must run their course.

The FF Plus will table a motion to question how it is possible for the rules of the Legislature to be so blatantly violated.
