It is unacceptable that Eskom will in any possible way at all be involved in the investigation into its problems and the FF Plus will be asking the Public Protector to urgently intervene and undertake the investigation herself, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on energy says.
Eskom denied that the chairperson, Mr. Zola Tsotsi had placed himself at the head of a sub-committee of Eskom’s Board and that they will have the authority to appoint investigators. News24 reported that Tsotsi and the committee will have an oversight role.
Adv. Alberts says despite the wordplay it is clear that Eskom wants to orchestrate the full investigation while it is in the country’s interest that a proper, independent investigation will be done.
“Eskom must not at all be involved in the investigation and the investigating team must report directly to the minister. Otherwise the door is opened to irregularities.
“The FF Plus will be asking the PP to intervene and undertake the investigation herself in terms of the constitutional mandate to investigate corruption and malpractices where it is in the public’s interest,” Adv. Alberts says.
