The FF Plus welcomes the decision of the Constitutional Court not to move cases that are due to come before the so-called "rhino court" in Skukuza, Mpumalanga, to other courts.
Despite the specialist court's success with cases that relate to rhino poaching, a senior official of the province ordered on the 28th of August 2019 that the "rhino court's" entire court roll, consisting of 72 cases, must be transferred to the court in Mhala.
Mpumalanga's Judge President Francis Legodi did not agree with the decision and ordered that the cases must be transferred back to the court in Skukuza. It, however, did not happen.
Ultimately, the Mpumalanga High Court ruled that the Skukuza Regional Court must re-open and continue to hear cases that relate to rhino poaching.
An application to appeal against the High Court's ruling was set aside. The case was then referred to the Constitutional Court where the decision to move the Regional Court has now also been overturned.
The FF Plus is of the opinion that the attempt to move the specialist court with its proven track record of success only benefited rhino poachers and that the subsequent legal proceedings were a waste of taxpayers' money.
The party also feels that the decisions of the High Court and the Constitutional Court raise serious questions about the attempts to move the court and will, therefore, request the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter.
