FF Plus welcomes Appeal Court’s ruling against racial stipulations of Tourism Equity Fund (TEF)

The FF Plus welcomes the ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein, which found that it is unlawful to use Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) as a condition for providing aid to small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the tourism industry what were affected by the Covid-19 restrictions.

The FF Plus pointed out on numerous occasions that the insistence of former Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, that BEE must be used as a criterion for SMMEs to qualify for aid from the Tourism Equity Fund (TEF) comes down to a cynical abuse of power to further the ANC's racial agenda.

This was despite the fact that countless business enterprises in the tourism industry across the country were dealt a severe blow by the Covid-19 restrictions and thousands of people lost their jobs.

The FF Plus also kept emphasising that the pandemic effectively levelled the "racial playing field" in the tourism industry and that the continued implementation of BEE regulations, therefore, amounts to malicious discrimination all the more.

The FF Plus will keep applying pressure to ensure that the TEF provides aid to all SMMEs that were affected by the pandemic, without any racial prejudice.

It is an absolute shame that the ANC government is still clinging to its racial obsession and even tried to exploit a pandemic to further its immoral political agendas.

Voters must take note of the ANC's actions and in the upcoming local government elections, stand up with the FF Plus and take a strong stance against the government's race-based policy, which brings about nothing but poverty and suffering.
