The FF Plus commends the police teams that chased down suspected members of the so-called blue-light hijacking gang on the N3 highway this past weekend.
The gang is believed to be responsible for several attacks between Villiers and Heidelberg.
Three members of the gang were killed in the incident.
A sharp rise in the number of hijackings, murders and attacks on the N3 over the past year jeopardised road users’ safety.
In June 2023 with the attack on Detective Warrant Officer Neels du Randt, the FF Plus insisted that the Free State Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, should appoint a special task team to put an end to the ongoing hijackings in the Free State, specifically between Warden and Heidelberg.
In one incident, nine trucks were simultaneously brought to a halt and pelted with petrol bombs.
It is absolutely crucial to hold criminals accountable for their conduct.
The FF Plus will keep putting pressure on government to implement effective measures against organised crime.
The FF Plus hopes that the firm police action sends a loud and clear message that criminals are not welcome in South Africa.
