The FF Plus demanded urgent intervention at the Matlosana Local Municipality (Hartbeesfontein, Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein) in an official letter to the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mmoloki Chailwe.
For months now, the Matlosana community has been burdened with the consequences of the Municipality's mismanagement brought about by, among other things, constant ANC faction fights in the province that have now also spilled over to the local council.
The letter was sent after yet another scheduled council meeting of Matlosana ended in chaos on Tuesday. The council's Speaker, Washington Ntozini, refused to discuss or bring to vote any of the pre-determined points on the agenda. He unilaterally adjourned the meeting.
The meeting was specifically convened to address a motion of no confidence in the Speaker and to elect a new mayor in a proper and lawful manner after Ms Maeto Kgaile formally resigned as mayor in September 2020 already.
It appears that Kgaile unlawfully "re-appointed" herself as mayor on the 11th of January 2021 with the Speaker and the Municipality's executive management being fully aware of it.
At present, her service as mayor is totally unlawful and the FF Plus has also brought this fact to the MEC's attention.
It is absolutely unacceptable that a once prosperous municipality, in an economic hub of the North West province, is being mismanaged into the ground due to the poor conduct of ANC cadres.
Service delivery in the municipal region has basically come to a standstill as a result of the instability in the council, which is paralysing municipal administration and functioning.
The FF Plus will keep using its influence and will put pressure on the provincial government to take action against municipalities affected by the abuse of power, corruption and mismanagement.
The ANC's unashamed and disorderly conduct in the province cannot be tolerated any longer as it is costing communities dearly.
Voters must punish the ANC-controlled municipalities for their mismanagement by making their mark at the polls during the upcoming elections.
