The FF Plus sent an official letter to the municipal manager of the Vhembe District Municipality, Ms Tshimangadzo Ndou, as well as Limpopo's MEC for Cooperative Governance, Baisikopo Makamu, asking for an action plan to be compiled to address the current water crisis affecting the Makhado Local Municipality (Louis Trichardt).
The FF Plus had no other choice but to escalate Louis Trichardt's water problems to the district and provincial level owing to the Makhado Municipality's failure to repair water leakages, and to replace or do maintenance on outdated water infrastructure.
This past week, the FF Plus's provincial office was inundated with complaints from residents who have, in some cases, been without water for three weeks now.
Business owners in the central business district are also hot under the collar because the water outages, caused by outdated infrastructure, are severely hampering their operations.
According to reports, there are also eleven fire hydrants around town that are out of order, it could have dire consequences should a fire break out.
Louis Trichardt cannot afford to lose businesses, which make a vital contribution to the local economy and create job opportunities, to other municipalities.
The FF Plus asked for feedback to be provided within seven days, such feedback must include a short-term action plan to address the pressing water crisis in the town as well as a long-term action plan to permanently solve the water problems.
The party also warned the District Municipality against contractors who breach their contracts by selling water to residents at exorbitant prices instead of repairing or replacing infrastructure.
It creates loopholes for corruption and the sabotage of water infrastructure.
Louis Trichardt deserves better than the ANC.
