Rina Marx: FF Plus councillor and Mayoral Committee Member for Health and Social Development
The FF Plus celebrated World Sight Day in October with numerous visually impaired elderly persons who were provided with free medical care by the Pretoria Eye Institute.
For these elderly persons, it was the best gift of all.
"This is the first time in two years that I am able to clearly see my loved ones," said Mr Johan Steenkamp after the Institute provided him with free cataract surgery.
The FF Plus's councillor and Mayoral Committee Member for Health and Social Development, Rina Marx, attended the event where about one hundred and twenty patients received cataract surgery.
According to Marx, the Pretoria Eye Institute offers free cataract surgery, every year on World Sight Day, to persons who are unable to afford private medical care.
The waiting lists at state hospitals are very long and most of the people who require cataract surgery are not treated. Many of these visually impaired persons are also elderly.
According to Marx, any person may apply to receive free cataract surgery in October on Sight Day.
Suitable candidates must submit their medical records via email to qualify for the surgery. Applications for October 2023 are now open.
To apply for possibly qualifying for October 2023, contact Anushka Boshoff at the FF Plus's Gauteng office on anushka@vfplus.org.za.
The FF Plus expresses its genuine gratitude for the essential medical care that the Institute provides to the elderly in need every year.
