FF Plus proposes surplus power plan to address power problems in Kempton Park

As soon as the new Mayoral Committee Member for Energy has been appointed in the Ekurhuleni Metro, the FF Plus will table a comprehensive surplus power plan.

The aim is to ensure that such a plan can be implemented immediately should Kempton Park experience any problems after the installation of the new 66 kV XLPE high-voltage power cables.

Designing a surplus power plan is crucial as it will ensure that the power supply to areas in Kempton Park is restored within an hour or two.

It will also afford technicians the opportunity to do quality maintenance work on the power grid, and prevent the implementation of quick fixes that damage the grid in the long term.

The power cables in certain areas of Kempton Park's two ring networks need to be doubled to allow for the implementation of the surplus power plan.

An electric storm recently caused a fire at the Rietfontein 88 kV substation, which left the following areas without power: Esselen Park, Kempton Park West, Birchleigh, Birch Acres, Bredell, Pomona, Brentwood Park, Nimrod Park, Bonaero Park, Terenure, Edleen, Glen Marais, Allen Grove, and Rietfontein and surrounding areas.

If a design had been in place to supply surplus power, these areas would not have been without power for two days.

The FF Plus will do everything in its power to ensure that the entire Kempton Park has access to stable power supply.
