Pensioners in Johannesburg have reason to rejoice after the FF Plus’s recommendation for further tax relief was adopted.
During a recent lekgotla where councillors discussed the 2018/19 budget, the FF Plus’s recommendation that the cut-off for 100% discount on a property must be increased from R2 million to R2,5 million was approved. This applies to pensioners who are 70 years and older. Die property value is determined by the latest municipal valuation.
This recommendation was adopted during the city’s 2018/19 budget meeting yesterday.
The party already made a breakthrough in 2013 when the recommendation to provide tax relief to the elderly was adopted for the first time. At that time, the cut-off was R2 million and less.
This decision is surely a victory for the party and once again goes to show that the FF Plus, as a member of the multiparty government in Johannesburg, is making a positive difference in the lives of residents.
Pensioners who quality for the discount are encouraged to go and register at their nearest municipal offices.
