The Birchleigh High School in Kempton Park’s water problems were resolved within just four days after the FF Plus stepped in.
The FF Plus put pressure on the Metro’s Department of Water and Energy, and demanded that the leaking water pipe causing the problem must be repaired at once.
The Metro did send water tanks to the school, but the water was undrinkable.
It compelled the school to spend nearly R4 000 on bottled water for the learners.
The FF Plus will ask the Metro to investigate the quality of the water that the water trucks supplied to the school.
With the current outbreak of cholera, chances must not be taken with people’s health.
At present, the water infrastructure in Kempton Park is under immense pressure and the Metro does not have enough maintenance teams to repair all the water leakages.
The FF Plus suggested that water pipes must be lined in order to extend their lifetime with up to ten years and, thus, limit water leakages.
