It recently came to light that arsonists were responsible for several of the devastating fires that caused extensive damage in the Free State over the past week.
The fires that raged between Bultfontein and Bloemfontein as well as between Theunissen and Welkom resulted in large-scale losses for the agricultural sector.
The FF Plus demands that the Free State Police Commissioner, Ms Baile Motswenyane, should use all available resources to find the culprits and show no mercy to arsonists in the province.
Farmers and their workers have put their lives and property in jeopardy to try and put out fires under extremely dangerous circumstances.
At present, agriculture is the riskiest vocation with many factors exerting immense pressure on the sector. High input costs and load shedding have already caused the price of potatoes and eggs to skyrocket, while also putting enormous pressure on consumers and the country’s food security.
The FF Plus wants to thank the farmers who have, over the past few weeks, spent days on end fighting fires, and expresses its condolences to those who have lost property and suffered any other damage.
