The FF Plus insists that the Mbombela Local Municipality (Mbombela/Nelspruit, Barberton, Hazyview, Kaapschehoop, Skukuza, White River) must make more vehicles available to the traffic department in Hazyview. At present, the traffic department in this town has only one vehicle at its disposal per shift, while there are five traffic officers who need to use it.
This has a detrimental impact on the department's ability to enforce traffic rules and regulations, not to mention visible policing.
This situation will inevitably result in road users ignoring any and all traffic rules and laws, because the chances of being held accountable for offences are very slim.
The FF Plus will insist that the Municipality implements its policy for vehicle packages for employees appointed on grade 11 and up. It means that employees will be allowed, in terms of a special remuneration package, to use their private vehicles for work purposes.
It will prevent employees' misuse of vehicles as it allows for joint ownership of the vehicles, which will ultimately improve vehicle maintenance and their overall responsibility towards the fleet.
The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the Municipality to implement this policy so as to enable traffic officers to do their jobs properly and ensure the safety of all road users.
