The FF Plus strongly condemns Monday morning’s shooting incident at the Mogalakwena Local Municipality (Potgietersrus).
It followed a notice issued last week about a supposedly lawful protest taking place on 11 November.
According to reports, some of the Municipality’s security officers fired shots at the protesters after they tried to prevent municipal officials from doing their jobs.
The protesters are allegedly demanding, among other things, the resignation of the Mayor, Ngoako Taueatsoala, due to service delivery issues.
Such conduct and display of violence are unacceptable, and the Municipality will have to revise its security plan to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The FF Plus understands that the community is unhappy with the Municipality’s poor service delivery, but this is no way to address the problem
