It is worrying that Eskom’s board says there is nothing wrong or sinister about the suspension of its chief executive and the question arises as to why he was suspended in the first place, Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus’ chief spokesperson on Public Enterprises says.
Dr. Groenewald says the FF Plus has also noted with concern Eskom’s intention to get rid of 3 389 highly skilled workers of which 1 081 ae white engineers.
“The FF Plus is telling government that the power crisis in South Africa is of such a nature that racism in the form of affirmative action should be scrapped. South Africa needs the best people, men and women, who are the most qualified, to do the work in the country.
“We all know the effect of Eskom and the power crisis on the economy as a whole, but also its effect on individuals in South Africa. You are doing the people of South Africa a disservice with the enforcement of affirmative action at Eskom.
“The FF Plus is saying, scrap it so that we can get proper services in the country,” Dr. Groenewald says.
