The Emfuleni Local Municipality has been brought to its knees by Rand Water’s 50% restriction on the water supplied to the Municipality as a result of its non-payment.
In some areas of Emfuleni, the taps run dry as early as ten o’clock in the morning when the reservoirs and water tanks are empty.
Residents are not even able to keep household appliances that work with water running because the water pressure is too low.
In Vanderbijlpark’s industrial area there is one business that has been without water since 10 June.
In the intervention agreement between Emfuleni and Rand Water, the water supplier undertook to repair water leakages in the Municipality over the course of three years.
A total of 400 leakages were reported, but after two years, Rand Water has only repaired a mere 28. So, it is clear that Rand Water is, likewise, unable to fulfil its role as bulk water supplier.
Rand Water is not only responsible for the water shortages, but also service delivery problems due to its seven-month-long attachment of Emfuleni’s current bank account.
Every month, Rand Water only lifts the attachment to allow salaries, amounting to R140 million, to be paid.
It is unfair that Rand Water is punishing loyal taxpayers for the sins of the ANC-controlled Emfuleni.
The FF Plus has warned the ANC numerous times about its maladministration of the Municipality seeing as it could result in the total collapse of service delivery.
Emfuleni deserves better than the ANC.
