The FF Plus is opposed to the Ekurhuleni Metro’s decision to sell items, such as mini-substations, at a public auction while many are still usable.
The party is of the opinion that the decision is not well thought through and that some of the items could be used as temporary replacements until the Metro is able to obtain alternatives. This is one way in which to improve service delivery.
Fifty mini-substations have been earmarked for auction, despite the Metro’s Department of Water and Energy’s recommendation that these downgraded units should temporarily be used to help reduce the frequent power outages in Ekurhuleni.
In addition, there is no cooperation nor communication between departments regarding the auctioning of drainage covers and garbage bins, while the demand for such items is quite high in a number of areas.
The Metro’s actions are not only undermining service delivery, but also increase the financial challenges faced by the Metro.
The FF Plus will not stand idly by and look on while usable assets are sold at auction as a result of the Metro’s outdated rating policy.
The party will put pressure on the Metro to review its policy regarding the sale of usable items and will refer its concerns to the relevant portfolio committee for speedy solutions.
The FF Plus is committed to ensuring that service delivery is prioritised and that needless financial burdens are alleviated.
