EFF undermines Tshwane administration with unfounded attacks on competent Emergency Services head

It will be a dark day when the Tshwane Metro Council yields to political pressure from the EFF and an unrecognised trade union, Public Service and Commercial Union, and strips the Metro’s head of Emergency Services, Moshema Mosia, of his office.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) regards the EFF’s latest onslaught on the City Manager, Johann Mettler, and Mr Mosia as nothing more than political theatrics and opportunism.

Since the aggrieved parties failed to have Mr Mosia removed by the Bargaining Council and the Public Protector (PP), they are now trying to disrupt the Metro’s administration through intimidation.

Mr. Mosia served in an acting capacity every three months for a period of more than two years before being appointed permanently, which testifies to continuity and the Council’s confidence in his leadership.

Although the Public Protector, Adv Kholeka Gcaleka, found that the Metro’s recruitment process for a head of Emergency Services in 2023 was irregular and flawed, she expressly confirmed that Mr Mosia possesses the necessary qualifications, experience and competencies. The procedural flaws that were identified related to the administration’s handling of the advertisement and the screening process, and had nothing to do with Mr Mosia.

He has a BAdmin degree, qualifications in fire technology and disaster management, and 36 years of experience in emergency services. He was the top candidate during the interview process and was formally found competent.

The PP ruled that his appointment was lawful and valid, but ordered corrective steps to ensure that future recruitment processes meet legal standards.

The EFF’s actions are not motivated by a desire to restore competent governance, but to undermine the Metro’s administration and discredit competent leadership.
