The FF Plus’s actions have led to an important breakthrough in the struggle against the EFF’s continued attempts to incite public unrest and violence that the Hawks have now announced that certain people will be prosecuted on charges of damage to property and vandalism.
The breakthrough comes a year after the FF Plus had submitted charges with the Hawks against, amongst others, the EFF Leader, Julius Malema, regarding the damage to the Kruger statue on Church Square in Pretoria.
Adv. Anton Alberts, FF Plus MP and provincial leader in Gauteng, said today that the Hawks had confirmed to him that the investigation has been completed and that certain persons are in the process of being charged.
According to Adv. Alberts, the FF Plus closely cooperated with the Hawks throughout the investigation, and provided the Hawks with important information.
The incident took place in April of last year when statues throughout South Africa were being damaged. Adv. Alberts says the EFF’s leaders openly encouraged the vandalism. Mr. Floyd Shivambu, EFF MP, even told EFF supporters on Twitter that it wasn’t necessary to go through a legal process to remove statues.
“The EFF incited people to damage or break so-called “colonial statues reminiscent of apartheid”, and this directly led to intentional damaging of Paul Kruger’s state on Church Square. The EFF later publically accepted responsibility for the incident.
“The complaints that the FF Plus submitted, were based on breaching the National Heritage Resources Act.
“The message should be sent out loud and clearly that South Africa still has the rule of law in which thuggery, as displayed by the EFF, will not be tolerated, and that nobody in a constitutional democracy is above the law,” Adv. Alberts said.
