The government cannot use the department of public works to solve the country's unemployment problem. The country needs a smaller and more streamlined department to do its job more effectively, says Dr. Corné Mulder, chief whip of the FF Plus.
Dr. Mulder said today with the department's budget debate there is no way in which the department can provide work for the country’s 6.9 million unemployed.
He says what the country needs is a smaller and more effective state, but the ANC is unable to deliver it.
Dr. Mulder also referred to the Nkandla saga and pointed out to the minister that the department has a very bad image with the South African public.
About the department's so-called reversal strategy, Dr. Mulder asked the minister why almost every department in government and almost every state entity needs a reversal strategy because it has failed over the past twenty years.
"How on earth do you do this?" Dr. Mulder asked.
