It is time for the Town Substation in Vanderbijlpark to be completely rebuilt.
This substation has been plagued by serious problems for the past eight years.
There have already been three major explosions, with the most recent one in February 2026. Numerous fires have also broken out during this period and the roof has had to be replaced at least twice.
Many suburbs, including Stephano Park, CW1, CW2, CW3, CW5, Tolstoy as well as areas served by the Becqueral Substation, have been without electricity since 23 February 2026 following yet another explosion at the Town Substation.
The substation has been temporarily fixed again and again, but it clearly needs to be rebuilt from scratch to prevent any further damage and reliably supply electricity.
The Town Substation is not only outdated, but also structurally compromised and has not been properly maintained since 2018.
More than emergency interventions are needed to stabilise power supply.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) will keep pressing for the Town Substation to be fully rebuilt to ensure reliable power supply to residents.
