Corona: Uncertainty about regulations unacceptable and could cause unnecessary fear and panic

The FF Plus welcomes the restriction of movement to limit the spread of the coronavirus, but the delay in the publication of the lockdown regulations is unacceptable and could lead to confusion and panic.

Absolute clarity in this regard must be provided; the people also need clarity about the financial support available to small to medium enterprises and the associated requirements.

The leader of the FF Plus, Dr Pieter Groenewald, has already contacted the office of President Cyril Ramaphosa about the rumours doing the rounds that the government will only offer support to small to medium enterprises with 51% or more black ownership. The rumour was vigorously denied.

When it comes to the general regulations for businesses and enterprises, the fact that the pandemic does not discriminate based on race, gender or status must be taken into account and, thus, it would be unacceptable to apply any form of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) measures in this case. All small to medium enterprises contribute to job creation and growing South Africa's economy.

Should the FF Plus find out that BEE plays any kind of role in the allocation of financial support packages, the party will expose it and do everything in its power to oppose it.

The FF Plus will put pressure on the government to publish the final measures and regulations as a matter of utmost urgency and will thoroughly scrutinise it for any irregularities.
