The FF Plus extends its sympathy to the wife and family of Clive Derby-Lewis who passed away today.
Derby-Lewis’ death has now proven that the awarding of medical parole in his case was justified in contrast to that of Schabir Shaik, who after receiving parole nearly eight years ago (on 3 March 2009) due to a terminal illness, but who is still playing golf.
Shaik only served 28 months of a sentence of 15 years.
Derby-Lewis was released on parole on 5 June 2015 and hardly 16 months later passed away. It clearly shows how unfair the minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Michael Masutha, was as he opposed numerous applications of Derby-Lewis for medical parole and had to be forced by a court to grant parole to Derby-Lewis.
Although the FF Plus does not agree with Derby-Lewis’ actions, it remains a sad experience for a family to lose a loved one through death.
