The violent protest on the N12 highway and in the town area of Potchefstroom once again shows that the ANC is unfit to govern.
Residents of Potchefstroom in the JB Marks Local Municipality were confronted by violent protesters at about four o'clock yesterday afternoon.
The CBD was reportedly blocked by trucks, motorists were intimidated and stones were hurled at vehicles.
The N12 runs straight through Potchefstroom. These events were reportedly a continuation of a protest about service delivery on the N12, which started at Ikageng just outside the town earlier that day.
It caused large traffic jams and the town's residents were traumatised by the escalating events.
The police requested businesses on social media security groups to close their doors and allow their employees to return to safety.
But the majority of these employees rely on public transport, which was also forced to come to a standstill.
The situation is unacceptable, and a shocking charge against the ANC-controlled Municipality.
The lack of proper service delivery and an apparent disregard for residents' needs create a volatile situation where violence and disruption are at the order of the day.
What is also alarming is that the local authorities were apparently unable to nip the situation in the bud due to, among other things, a lack of resources.
The FF Plus is currently monitoring the situation and is calling on the authorities to fulfil their constitutional duty to protect the law-abiding people of Potchefstroom against criminal conduct.
It must be ensured that the ANC-controlled Municipality is held accountable for its lack of service delivery.
The people of Potchefstroom deserve better than the ANC.
