Large parts of Nigel have no water after a pipe burst early Friday morning along the R42 (Nigel/Delmas Road).
The residential areas of Pretoriusstad, Alra Park and Mackenzieville are affected by this.
Residents contacted the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus), after which the party immediately reported the issue and brought it to the attention of the Mayoral Committee Member for Water, Thembi Msane.
Due to the large volumes of water gushing across the road and sidewalk, the road had to be closed on both sides.
The sidewalk also gave way due to the intense water flow.
A large hole filled with water formed in the process. This water had to be pumped out before the repair team could access the burst pipe to assess the damage.
According to a notice from the Metro, the water supply is expected to be restored by 19:00. It may, however, change if issues arise during the repair process.
Three water tankers have already been deployed to supply water to the affected areas.
The Freedom Front Plus expects the Department of Roads to repair the damaged sidewalk as soon as possible and to inspect the road for any possible damage after the water leak has been fixed.
Ekurhuleni is notorious for taking months to repair damaged infrastructure.
The party will keep the pressure on to ensure it does not happen in this case.
