While South Africa’s national soccer group is preparing for their departure to the Olympic Games in Rio, without any of its 22 members being white, the ANC announced that racism will officially apply in the selection of the country’s national cricket team and the FF Plus wants to inform the world of this anew, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on sport, said.
Adv. Anton Alberts says it underscores the ANC government’s obsession with colour and quotas, which is now being enforced openly and without hesitation at the expense of merit and sports development.
Adv. Alberts accused Mr. Chris Nenzani, Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) president of spinelessness and said this subservience to the political pressure will cause great damage to the prestige of the sport.
“Mr. Nenzani alleges that he does not know precisely what quotas entail. I can assist him with it. In August last year, the port minister, Fikile Mbalula, responded to a parliamentary question of the FF Plus about the this, stating that national teams will in future have to reflect the national demographics.
“This means that only one white and one brown player will be allowed to be included in the cricket team in future. What message does this send to young brown and white children who have sporting dreams? The ANC is shocking with its obsession to artificially manipulate the country’s social and labour environment, regardless of the damage it is causing.
“Ironically, excellent young black players, likeKagiso Rabada and Temba Bavuma, have come to the fore in recent times, purely based on merit. Will they be satisfied to play in a complete quota team?
“It is incomprehensible that the sporting world, following the sports boycotts during the previous regimes, is now apparently prepared to play against South African teams which have to be selected based on their skin colour and where political interference is rampant.
“The FF Plus has already informed the international sporting community about the state of affairs, and will now be continuing to do it. Everybody knows about the unpleasant incident in the previous world cup cricket tournament in the match against New Zeeland.
“It is surprising that countries such as Australia on the cricket field, and New Zeeland on the rugby field, are prepared to, without reservations, compete against South African teams which have to compete with a chain around its ankle as a result of political quota pressure,” Adv. Alberts said.
