All South Africans should take hands and take a stand against the ANC’s corruption troikas threatening municipalities countrywide.
Incidents of serious corruption and fraud in ANC-controlled municipalities frequently come to light.
Those implicated are almost always identified as a corrupt official and/or local politician colluding with an equally corrupt municipal service provider.
In the most recent case, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the ANC-controlled Matlosana Local Municipality, Mercy Phetla, and two employees of a local construction company in Klerksdorp were arrested on charges of corruption amounting to R1,4 million.
This is the third recent case in which senior officials and politicians in Matlosana have been arrested and charged with serious irregularities.
The fact that municipal service providers have reportedly been referring to Phetla as “Ms 15%” for some time is also telling and worrying.
What is clear from these and other similar incidents is that the ANC corruption culture has spilled over to parts of the private sector to form ANC-led corruption troikas.
A mutual dependence between these corrupt elements is created with the sole aim of looting municipal funds for troika members’ self-enrichment.
It seems that this practice has become a customary way of doing business in many communities.
It is imperative that all businesses and communities band together to fight against the ANC corruption systematically destroying our municipalities.
Voters should also seize the opportunity to remove the ANC from government by voting in the upcoming elections and replacing it with an ethical coalition government of which the FF Plus is part.
