The Auditor-General (AG) has once again made serious findings against the ANC-controlled Sedibeng District Municipality; most of which were repetitions of previous years’ problems.
This ANC-controlled District Municipality pays no attention to warnings and simply continues to make the same mistakes year in and year out, without there being any sign of improvement. One obvious reason for this is that guilty personnel and their political leaders are not held accountable.
In some cases, the AG could not even manage to examine or confirm the data supplied to him owing to its poor quality and illegibility. The AG directly criticised Sedibeng’s accounting officer for the poor quality of the work.
Previously, during a Public Accounts Committee meeting, the FF Plus pointed out which personnel in the District Council are not doing their jobs properly, but despite this, no-one has been disciplined or dismissed.
The AG found, among other things, that Sedibeng failed to plan to appoint competent individuals to fill the posts of experienced personnel who will soon retire.
The FF Plus also learnt that the Financial Committee does indeed compile reports on the personnel to be disciplined, but that the Mayoral Committee, however, prevents these reports from being tabled to the municipal Council.
The last straw is that the Mayor, Maloko Lerato, failed to table reports from the Mayoral Committees to the Sedibeng Council for approval until six months after the deadline.
It is clear that the ANC government has no respect for the Council’s functions and is, therefore, not to be trusted.
The FF Plus will monitor the implementation of the recommendations in the AG’s report and put pressure on the ANC government to ensure that all the issues highlighted in the report are properly addressed.
Ultimately, the only solution to this and all other issues is to remove the ANC from power in the 2024 elections.
Every vote strengthens the FF Plus, enabling it to take over Gauteng’s government as a trusted coalition partner, and then actively intervene in the many dysfunctional municipalities and district municipalities.
