With the right attitude and commitment, South Africa can once again work for the benefit of all its people.
Dr Pieter Groenewald, leader of the FF Plus, demonstrated in his capacity as Minister of Correctional Services that it can indeed be done, as he eradicated the entire backlog of parole applications to the Department of Correctional Services in just a little over his first hundred days in office.
The FF Plus welcomes the example set by its leader for his colleagues in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
It certainly is worthy of emulation, and it shows that competent individuals in the GNU can indeed get the country back on the right track. In fact, it is already happening.
Dr Groenewald not only eradicated a backlog of nearly 500 applications which he inherited from the previous term, but he also finalised all new applications by a deadline which he had set for himself.
All this in less than four months in office.
Over the last thirty years under ANC rule, South Africans have experienced immense frustration, but have also become accustomed to dysfunctional government departments that fail to meet deadlines.
What has been achieved here proves how well a government can function with competent, honest and hard-working leaders who surround themselves with skilled and properly trained staff.
