TMPD’s proactive steps in Pretoria CBD welcomed

The FF Plus welcomes the proactive steps taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) to address the traffic chaos in the Pretoria CBD.

In July, the TMPD towed away and impounded about one thousand illegally parked vehicles.

Additional storage fees are charged on top of the relevant fine if owners fail to claim their vehicles right away.

The party is aware that parking is a problem in the CBD, but warns motorists not to park in loading zones, bus lanes and no-parking areas, such as in front of fire hydrants.

The FF Plus councillor Grandi Theunissen is the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety.

During his tenure, there have been significantly fewer complaints about the conduct of TMPD officials at the vehicle pound.
This reduction in grievances reflects the positive impact Theunissen has had on the TMPD’s accountability, transparency and professionalism right from the outset.

Motorists are advised that payments to retrieve impounded vehicles can only be made at the TMPD offices at 11 Francis Baard Street, Pretoria Central.

The relevant proof of payment needs to be produced at the vehicle pound at 1 Madiba Street, Pretoria Central, before a vehicle will be returned to its owner.

The FF Plus is calling on the TMPD to not limit its enforcement of the law in Pretoria’s CBD to illegally parked vehicles, but to take the same kind of decisive action against all road-users who violate traffic laws.
