Outrage at looting of mini substations in Kempton Park

The FF Plus shares the outrage of Kempton Park residents at the looting of four mini substations last week.

The mini substations are in Birchleigh, Pomona and Rhodesfield, and the incidents caused power outages lasting from three to six days.

It resulted in serious disruptions and financial losses for many residents.

The vandalised substations could not be repaired and the Ekurhuleni Metro had to buy four new mini substations.

The FF Plus is disappointed that Ekurhuleni is apparently unable to curb cable theft and the looting of substations.

The party holds the Metro and the security company tasked with protecting the substations accountable for the looting.

The party demands that the security company discloses the number of incidents of cable theft that it successfully prevented as well as the number of cable thieves that have been arrested.

A proactive approach to protecting critical infrastructure should be followed.

The FF Plus is calling on all residents and local interested parties to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Metro’s dedicated hotline: 0860 054 3000.
