The ten luxury vehicles that the Free State Premier, Maqueen Letsoha Mathae, procured for traditional leaders in the province is a slap in the face of Free Staters who are plagued by poor service delivery.
The FF Plus will pose questions to Mathae in the Free State Legislature, insisting that she indicate how much the vehicles cost and whether they were budgeted for.
The Free State is already under immense financial pressure. On Thursday, the Free State Public Accounts Committee was informed by the Provincial Treasury that the Departments of Education and Health had already overspent on the salaries of educators and medical personnel in the first quarter.
It is no secret that provinces, especially the Free State, will not be able to retain educator posts due to a national shortage.
In spite of the recent cost-saving measures implemented by the Provincial Treasury, the Premier deemed it necessary to buy traditional leaders new vehicles.
All while the Free State Legislature is struggling to get enough funds from the Provincial Treasury to effectively perform its oversight role.
The vehicles come down to nothing but political bribery where state funds are used in an effort to save a struggling ANC in rural areas.
