The final exams are upon us. Nearly all matriculants take either English or Afrikaans as Home Language or as First Additional Language.
So, with English Paper 3 on Monday morning and Afrikaans Paper 3 Monday afternoon the 2024 matric final exams will be in full swing.
When a learner enrols in Grade 1, the main objective is to write matric twelve years later. It, however, does not always work out that way because some learners drop out, while others leave the school system to enrol for technical and career-driven training at colleges. From a career perspective, this is still a win-win situation.
The big problem is that there are currently many successful matriculants who are unemployed. The reason is that matric prepares one for further studies and that there are only a very small number of schools offering career-driven subjects.
It is important for matriculants to realise, while they are celebrating their achievements, that matric is only a milestone and not the destination.
It is no secret that not all candidates will pass the matric exams. Fortunately, a fail can usually be converted to a pass by repeating only a few subjects. If this is at all possible, one should certainly make use of the opportunity, rather than accepting one’s fate.
A matric certificate opens many doors.
This is the last stretch and now is not the time to lose heart or let things slide, even though the temptation might be great due to the immense pressure.
