The FF Plus supports the recommendation by the Tshwane Metro Council’s Public Accounts Committee that R246 million should be recovered from officials following the misappropriation of funds during the upgrade of the Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment plant.
The recommendation was adopted during a recent council meeting and the possibility of filing criminal charges against officials has not been ruled out.
An investigation into the misappropriation of funds at Rooiwal was launched after a tender was awarded in the 2018/19 financial year.
The investigation found that the contractor who was awarded the tender did not meet the prescribed requirements to successfully execute and complete the contract.
This council decision demonstrates that the misappropriation of public funds will not be tolerated and that culprits will be brought to book.
The FF Plus will continue to keep a close eye on how tax money is spent, for all residents’ benefit.
