Farming community must protect themselves as the government is not going to

The most recent farm attack on a farm in the Bela-Bela (Warmbad) area, in which a 73-year-old woman was murdered and her 82-year-old husband was seriously injured, once again goes to show that the ANC government is not serious about rural protection, says Marcelle Maritz, provincial leader of the FF Plus in Limpopo.

According to Maritz, the government’s rural protection plans are failing because the police lacks proper and sufficient resources and support.

She says that civil society now has to try and protect citizens, which is actually the government’s Constitutional duty, by establishing their own safety networks and organisations.

“It is unacceptable and points to the ANC government’s absolute incompetence and slackness in this regard.

“The FF Plus thanks the Heritage Protection Group (HPG), a civil crime fighting organisation, which is currently looking for the murderers. No stone may be left unturned until the attackers are safely behind bars.

“On behalf of the FF Plus, I would also like to offer my sincerest condolences to the victims’ friends and family,” says Maritz.
