The FF Plus has raised an objection to changing the name of Tlokwe municipality to JB Marks and considers it a needless waste of money, says Dr Pieter Groenewald, leader of the FF Plus.
According to Dr Groenewald, Ventersdorp is in dire straits financially and the money that will be spent on the change of name can be put to better use, like improving service delivery, housing and addressing other problems in the town.
“There will be fruitless expenses like changing letterheads, official documents and signposts. Ventersdorp can simply become part of the Tlokwe municipality without a change of name.
“The FF Plus is fundamentally opposed to using people’s names for places or streets. A new government may, for instance, not like the fact that the municipality is named after JB Marks and then they will have to change the name again. It is short-sighted and neutral names should rather be used,” says Dr Groenewald.
