America draws the line with Rasool and South Africa

America clearly drew a line in the sand when it unceremoniously kicked South Africa’s ambassador in America, Ebrahim Rasool, out of the country.

The statement by America’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Rubio, that Rasool is “PERSONA NON GRATA” and that there is nothing more to discuss with him is obviously also a message for the South African government.

It is evident that the ANC does not realise or understand the gravity of the crisis concerning the country’s foreign relations with America nor the consequences of its anti-American actions.

The ANC unilaterally appropriated South Africa’s international relations and ties with America as its exclusive domain, despite being part of a Government of National Unity. This has to be revisited.

What is transpiring here is obviously the result of cadre deployment seeing as an ANC cohort was appointed as ambassador instead of a professional diplomat who acts in the best interest of South Africa, and not just the ANC.

It is shocking that Rasool was sent to America as ambassador in the first place given his image in the media as one who sympathises with terror organisations, such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and is hostile towards Israel.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will realise today that simply playing a “game of golf” with President Trump will not remedy the relationship. What is needed now is a balanced foreign policy and diplomatic relations that benefit South Africa and all its people.
