Alarm bells were set ringing for democracy in Gauteng after the EFF and the ANC used violence to prevent the acting Speaker to take his seat during the council meeting of the Tshwane Metro which was held on Thursday.
This incident paved the way for the MEC for Cooperative Governance in Gauteng, Mr Lebogang Maile, to place the Metro under administration.
On top of that, the Department of Cooperative Governance (COGTA) interfered during the session by overseeing the election of a new acting Speaker after the incident took place and that is unlawful.
The provincial Department of Cooperative Governance may only intervene in a general local government election if a municipal manager or an acting municipal manager was not appointed by the relevant council.
It is also clear that the Gauteng Premier, Mr David Makura, condones the violence which followed on the threat he made earlier this week to intervene in the situation.
The FF Plus will launch an investigation into the incident and then lodge complaints with the police, the Public Protector (PP) and other relevant law enforcement agencies.
