The FF Plus is disappointed that the North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, did not offer any sustainable solutions for the numerous crises in the province in his State of the Province Address (SOPA) earlier today.
The disruptive behaviour of some of the other political parties during the Legislature's session also did not help. Instead, it further undermined the credibility of the country's constitutional structures.
An image of anarchy, lawlessness and contempt for the country's Constitution is conveyed to communities through this kind of behaviour.
In his SOPA, Mr Mokgoro admitted that nearly all the municipalities in the province are in crisis, but he failed to come up with any feasible and sustainable solutions to the problems.
It stands in stark contrast to some of the Premier's previous statements that corruption will be eradicated and that there will be intervened at poorly managed municipalities to restore basic service delivery.
The FF Plus pointed out in the Legislature many times over that service delivery can only be restored if there are effective interventions and if professional officials are appointed at the relevant municipalities. Placing municipalities under so-called administration has thus far not been successful.
In many cases, it only served to form new channels of corruption which, in turn, lead to a further decline in service delivery. The Premier proposed that 200 000 labourers must be appointed across the province to remedy the situation.
This proposal is put forward despite the fact that such job-creation programmes have not achieved the desired results and they place an even greater burden on taxpayers.
He furthermore proposed that more boreholes must be drilled in the province to bring relief from water shortages. He, however, did not say anything about the millions of litres of water that go to waste every day due to dilapidated infrastructure and pollution.
This shows that the ANC government either does not comprehend the extent and the seriousness of the matter or they do not have the political will to hold the corrupt and incompetent officials in the province accountable.
The FF Plus is once again calling on the Premier and the provincial government to set a good example, to take the lead and to do the basics things right in the interest of all the people of North West.
