Power outages a great burden for residents of Balfour and Grootvlei

Frequent power outages have been affecting the residents of Balfour and Grootvlei since December last year when thunder caused a transformer to burn out. It results in power outages that last up to 15 consecutive days in some parts of these two towns.

And recently, parts of the towns were again without power for five days due to illegal connections.

Numerous residents of Balfour and Grootvlei have lost thousands of rand worth of perishable products and electrical appliances for the second time in just three months due to the extensive power outages and power surges.

The Municipality of Dipaliseng denies the real reason for the electricity problems and is not willing to answer residents' questions about the power outages and illegal connections.

The FF Plus received photos of these illegal connections and it is clear that the electricity thieves did not even try to hide the illegal connections because the general assumption is that Eskom, the police and the Dipaliseng Municipality will not take action against them.

It is unacceptable that paying residents in the municipal area are burdened with such circumstances just because the ANC municipality is too afraid that it will lose votes if it forces people to pay for their electricity.

This is the reason why the FF Plus is encouraging residents to submit claims for the damages they suffered due to the power outages. The Dipaliseng Municipality supplies electricity via Eskom and is responsible for paying out such claims.

The FF Plus will ask the relevant questions in the provincial Legislature regarding the damage to residents' property and the party will insist that residents' claims are paid out.
