Gert Willem van den Berg is an attorney in Kuruman, living in Hotazel. He obtained an LLB degree from the North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Estate Planning from the UFS. He specializes in tax law, estate law, estate planning, trusts and litigation. His greatest interest, however, remains estate law. He has a great love for the outdoors, agriculture, hunting, conservation of South Africa’s natural heritage and philosophy. Experience made him aware of the challenges faced by communities and taxpayers in the Joe Morolong Municipality.
“I believe that a person’s character is determined by the principles by which they live. Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Every cultural community has a responsibility to preserve its own language, traditions and heritage and to pass them on to future generations. I believe in respect for the law and that a person forms his own character through self-discipline and responsibility. As Plato said: “The first and greatest victory is to conquer oneself.”
