Yet another rural attack at Modimolle: Vigilance is vital

The recent incident at Cyferfontein just outside Nylstroom (Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality) is the latest in a series of attacks that occurred in the area over the past few years.

It once again highlights the importance of rural communities being vigilant at all times and joining local safety and security structures.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman, asked to keep her name and address confidential for the sake of her safety.

According to the woman, five perpetrators cut the fence around the house, poisoned the dogs, and used a ladder to climb up onto the balcony on the 11th of August.

Then they forced open a sliding door to gain access to the house.

The woman reports that she woke up and was able to activate an alarm before hiding in her closet.

The attackers, however, discovered her in the closet and forced her to unlock the safe. In the process, they fired shots into the ground next to her where she lay.

The headlights of members of the local security structures frightened the attackers and they fled.

This incident proves yet again that vigilance and being part of local security structures, particularly in rural areas, are of cardinal importance for personal protection and safety.

The police in Modimolle told the FF Plus that no arrests have been made. Fingerprints were reportedly found at the scene.

The FF Plus engaged with the victim and offered assistance in the form of trauma counselling and support.

The party is calling on the police to do everything in their power to apprehend the perpetrators before they carry out another attack.
