The FF Plus supports the process of reinstituting ward committees in the Tshwane Metro.
The Metro Council has just adopted a resolution making it possible to finalise the appointment of members to the Independent Election Management Body (IEMB).
The IEMB is tasked with managing the election of residents to ward committees.
Ward committees serve as a powerful platform for residents in every ward, providing them with insight into the drafting of the Metro’s budget and the determination of service delivery priorities.
The Tshwane Metro has not had any functional ward committees for a long time, so, the process to reinstitute them comes as good news.
It will increase residents’ participation in governing the Metro and, thus, deepen the democracy, which will benefit all interested parties in the Metro.
Establishing ward committees is also aligned with the FF Plus’s policy, i.e., as much power as possible should be devolved to grass-roots level.
The FF Plus will closely monitor the process to ensure that ward committees soon become a reality in the Tshwane Metro again.
