Freedom Front Plus welcomes Rand Water’s maintenance work in Ekurhuleni

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes Rand Water’s maintenance of critical water infrastructure, which will affect large parts of the Ekurhuleni Metro from 30 June to 2 July.

Some of the essential maintenance work was completed during the first phase of the project between 29 May and 3 June. Work is now set to continue with the next phase, focusing on the Zwartkopjes system, which supplies water to large parts of the Ekurhuleni Metro.

Although the planned water interruptions may cause inconvenience, the Freedom Front Plus believes this long-overdue upgrade is essential for improving the long-term reliability and efficiency of water supply in the Metro.

Full restoration of the water supply may take up to seven days after completion of the maintenance work, while high-lying areas and those relying on pump systems may possibly have to wait even longer.

Areas in Ekurhuleni affected by the interruption include:

Benoni and Wattville:
Airfield, Northmead, Farrarmere, Farrarmere Gardens, Goedeburg, North Villa, Rynfield, Brentwood Park, parts of Morehill, Ebotse Estate, Benoni North Agricultural Holdings, Kleinfontein, Lakefield, Benoni Western Extension, Benoni AH, Actonville, Wattville, Tamboville, Dewalt Hattingh Park, Msholozi and Emandleni informal settlements, Mackenzie Park, Rynsoord and New Modder.

Germiston and Boksburg:
Spruitview, Leondale, Rondebult, Sunward Park, Van Dyk Park, Freeway Park, Parkdene, Cinderella, Elspark, Groeneweide, Klipoortjie, Boksburg South, Boksburg Industrial Area, Boksburg AH, Farrar Park, Libradene, Atlasville, Beyers Park, Anderbolt, Parkhaven and Katlehong 1.

Kempton Park:
Atlasville, Bredell (including Eastlands Estate), Riverfields.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are encouraged to store up enough water before 30 June, use water sparingly during the interruption, and look out for official Ekurhuleni notices for updates and contingency measures. Water tankers will be deployed to the affected areas to provide temporary relief.

The Freedom Front Plus hopes that this investment in critical infrastructure will ensure that Ekurhuleni’s water-related issues become a thing of the past.
