The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) does not support the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro’s adjustment budget. The budget exposes serious financial management, poor service delivery and a blatant disregard for taxpayers’ money.
The ANC-led coalition, which has been in power for more than three years, has failed to establish any credible record of service delivery. In fact, it amounts to a total failure with an extremely poor collection rate.
Poor administration has resulted in a spike of R2,2 billion in the municipal debt book within just six months.
The Metro’s management blames droughts and tariff adjustments in an effort to cover up their own incompetence and the decay of infrastructure. Widespread water leakages are one of the biggest problems.
Another waste of money is the exorbitant over-time payments made to security staff. This practice puts needless pressure on taxpayers and drains the Metro’s financial resources.
The Freedom Front Plus insists on better planning and alternative solutions to remedy the problem.
In addition, the Metro recently received a qualified audit opinion with findings on poor financial record keeping and asset mismanagement.
The Metro’s reliance on outdated manual processing of documentation is a major obstacle and these processes should have been automated a long time ago.
The best solution to most of these problems is still to decentralise the Metro to ensure better administration and accountability.
The Freedom Front Plus remains committed to exposing these failures and promoting reforms that offer real, sustainable solutions for residents.
