Thanks to pressure from the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) and other opposition parties, the Lephalale Local Municipality (Ellisras) has been prevented from using municipal funds to sponsor a soccer team’s trip to Maseru (Lesotho) to participate in the 2025 Southern African Inter-Municipal Sports Association’s event.
The trip would have cost the Municipality a whopping R625 000.
During today’s special council meeting, the party supported the proposal to withdraw funding for this initiative.
With Lephalale constantly facing challenges, such as sewage problems, crumbling roads and water issues, the funds should rather be used for service delivery.
These funds are desperately needed to repair infrastructure and support communities, not sponsor excursions.
The Freedom Front Plus will not allow taxpayers’ money to be senselessly squandered.
