Freedom Front Plus demands swift and transparent corruption investigation into Thabazimbi

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the commencement of the forensic investigation into the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (Thabazimbi, Northam, Rooiberg, Leeupoort, Kromdraai), but stresses that in cases of alleged corruption, interventions have to be implemented without delay.

The investigation follows constant pressure from the Freedom Front Plus in the Provincial Legislature and comes more than a year after the Municipality was dissolved in October 2024. The party condemns this delay.

This forensic probe was a compulsory condition imposed on the Limpopo MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mr Basikopo Makamu, by the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) as part of the process that led to the Municipality’s dissolution.

On 2 December, the Municipal Manager, Mr Gopolang Letsoalo, chaired a meeting with the forensic investigation team. Representatives from COGTA and the provincial Treasury were also present.

The forensic investigation into Thabazimbi has to determine whether corruption, mismanagement and financial misconduct occurred, and will also look into the roles of officials and politicians.

The Freedom Front Plus emphasises that good governance and transparency are the cornerstones of a functional municipality. Officials and politicians involved in maladministration or financial misconduct should be held accountable, without exception.

Furthermore, the results of the investigation should be disclosed to the public immediately to ensure full transparency. The aim is not only to bring the guilty to book, but also to lay the foundation for restoring service delivery and financial stability in Thabazimbi.

Die VF Plus sal die proses fyn monitor om te verseker dat dit tot wesenlike verandering en geregtigheid vir die gemeenskap lei.
