Freedom Front Plus demands accountability for water leak in Impala Park

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) demands that the Ekurhuleni Metro prioritise water leak repairs to prevent large-scale water wastage, such as in Impala Park, Boksburg.

The leak in Locheed Street was reported last Thursday, but was only repaired by Saturday.

Despite constant pressure from the Freedom Front Plus, the taps of residents of Griffon Avenue and nearby streets were running dry while thousands of litres of water were lost.

The failure to resolve an emergency such as this within a reasonable number of hours is unacceptable.

This incident highlights the shockingly poor response time of Ekurhuleni’s Water and Sanitation Department, and the lack of oversight and maintenance of infrastructure in Boksburg’s eastern suburbs.

The party demands that the Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Ms Thembi Msane, urgently investigate the matter and ensure accountability. Incidents like these should be resolved within eight hours, not after two days.

The Metro cannot afford to waste a precious resource like water. While the Metro expects residents to cooperate and conserve water, it does not adhere to any conservation measures itself.

The incident in Impala Park is a stark reminder of the high cost of incompetent governance and slow response times.

At a time when every drop counts, residents deserve a metro that not only responds swiftly, but also plans ahead and acts responsibly.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep striving to ensure that this type of negligence is not overlooked, but brought to book.
