The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the guilty verdict handed down to the three accused of the murder of Nicci Jansen van Rensburg on 7 October 2022 at his farm in Roedtan, Limpopo.
The party attended today’s court proceedings in support of the family.
Nicci’s fiancée, Veronica Grobler, and a friend’s son were assaulted, tied up and forced to witness the events during the attack.
During the court proceedings on 21 August 2023, the accused’s legal representative requested that the case be dismissed, claiming that the state lacked sufficient evidence.
The Freedom Front Plus’s late former provincial leader and MPL, Ms Marcelle Maritz, wasted no time in asking the Waterberg District Police Commissioner, Major General Dikeledi Rebecca Mangena, to ensure a thorough investigation and to provide any outstanding evidence to the state prosecutor.
This information was passed on to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), which recommended that the investigation continue and that the accused be detained.
All three accused were today found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, robbery, robbery with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of illegal firearm(s) and illegal ammunition, and conspiracy.
The case has been postponed to allow family members the opportunity to provide testimony before sentencing.
The Freedom Front Plus hopes that the court’s ruling brings Nicci’s family and loved ones some closure. The past three years have been a painful and difficult journey for them.
