Last Thursday, two FF Plus councillors in the Tshwane Metro Council were conferred with the status of alderman for their exceptional contributions and work in the Metro Council.
The status, which is retained for life and is bestowed regardless of party affiliation, is conferred based on a stringent scale whereby points are awarded for, among other things, years served as councillor, years served as chairperson of a committee and serving as a member on the Mayoral Committee.
Alderman Sakkie du Plooy, who is already serving his second term in the Tshwane Metro Council, is the Mayoral Committee member for Health and he works diligently to ensure that Metro residents have access to healthcare services that are of a high standard.
Alderman Awie Erasmus is also serving his second term as councillor and he is the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, which has an oversight role over finances and is tasked with ensuring that the Metro Council's officials are held accountable for mismanagement and corruption.
What makes this achievement extraordinary is that at the age of 33, Alderman Erasmus is one of the youngest councillors ever to be conferred with this honour.
In the upcoming municipal elections, both these aldermen will stand as candidates for the FF Plus in the Tshwane Metro Council.
The FF Plus wishes to congratulate these two leaders. The party believes that they will grow from strength to strength for the benefit of the party and the people.
